“Watching The Queue” is dead, long live the Anonymous Queue!

Many Wizard101 players have been upset by people watching the queue in PvP and setting up for specific opponents. While it’s not yet in the update notes, Wizard101 has finally taken steps to stop this activity on the November Test Realm.

As you can see, players are no longer able to view the schools or names of their possible opponents. If you’re worried that the colors behind the silhouettes are an indicator of school – don’t. These colors change randomly every time you refresh the queue.

This should make it much harder to use strategies that require setting for specific opponents to boost stats and critical cards, like the popular Jade/Juju build we discussed a while back. While this doesn’t fix the overpowered gear, it at least forces players to take into account the possibility of facing a different class.

High Rank Warning

This will make PvP less of a hassle for many players in the average rank ranges, but those at top level and very high ranks are not likely to feel the relief. These players tend to get paired together  regularly, and can more easily be prepared for who they will face. The queue can’t fix that.

This update also introduced “Gear Sets”, which allow players to pre-load entire sets of gear in their backpack. This means that if someone recognizes the opponent they are facing before the match timer counts down, it’s easier than ever before to quickly switch an entire set of gear, and pick out a named deck.
