Discussion: Lore Spells and Low Level PvP

Lore Spells and Low Level PvP

Picture this: you’re in a 1v1 match on a magus Myth wizard, and you’re facing a Death wizard from second. You think to yourself, “Oh, this is great! I’ll get my Cyclops minion on the field round 1, Death struggles to kill minions!” Then, something hits you: it isn’t 2010 anymore. “Oh, Deer Knight exists… well, what are the odds my opponent even has Deer Knight?” Try again. It isn’t 2013 anymore, of course your opponent has Deer Knight trained! Then, the axe-wielding bone-deer removes a third of your health and leaves a pesky DoT around your feet. Ouch.

This was me in a recent match. Yep, I was painfully reminded of how common it is for wizards under level 50 to have lore/dropped spells nowadays. It wasn’t always like this, of course. Even back just a few years, far fewer low-level duelists had access to lore/dropped spells. I don’t think the reason behind this is much of a mystery: the pool of duelists in ranked PvP has been depleted of beginners over time, creating an environment with an unbalanced concentration of experienced, “hardcore” players (see this great article and this great article series for more discussion of this concept!). Because these are the types of duelists most willing to go the extra mile to obtain lore/dropped spells, it logically follows that more low-level duelists than ever before have access to these once rare spells.

The Question

With that point established, I finally get to my purpose in writing this article: What is your opinion on this? Ignore that the spells add another barrier of entry for beginning duelists; that there are fewer beginners in the arena nowadays is almost universally accepted to be a weakness of current Wizard101 PvP.

I’m interested in what you think of lore/dropped spells in low level PvP in terms of the actual matches. Does it make PvP under level 50 more interesting? Less interesting? Other thoughts? As an example, a general thought of mine is that the offensive power provided by lore/dropped spells reduces the effectiveness of a more slow, minion-heavy playstyle; because I enjoy playing in a this style on my magus Myth wizard, I am not particularly fond of lore spells being so common nowadays.

Please comment your thoughts on this topic below!

Happy Dueling!

How to Play Shock a Lock (Silver Chest Game)

http://ift.tt/2kqm8DY

How to Play Shock a Lock
Silver Chest Game

If you’re reading this, I suppose you’re trying to get shocked keys for your crafting quests! In this small guide, we will look at how to play Shock a Lock. This is one of the two games randomly chosen whenever you open a silver chest. The other game is Catch a Key.

To win Shock a Lock, you have to make a path from the beginning point (1) until the end (2), before the timer runs out. At the beginning, all the pieces are turned so you can’t see what they contain. You can reveal them by clicking them once.

Revealing the pieces

There is a timer, but you do have enough time to turn all the pieces around, if you so desire. Note that this is not necessary to win the game. It just makes it easier in the beginning to see what pieces you are dealing with. Here’s what one of my boards looked like when I turned them all around:

How to Play Shock a Lock

Forming a Path

As seen on the next picture, I chose to use five horizontal pieces, followed by a corner, a vertical piece, and another corner. This is however not the only solution! The length or form of your tubes has no effect on the completion of the game or on the drops. Next are two examples of different possible paths:

How to Move the Pieces

You can’t TURN these pieces! You are just changing where they’re located. A vertical piece will STAY a vertical piece no matter what. You’re just switching its location. First, click one piece, so it gets a yellow border. Then, click another piece. These two pieces will switch place. Create a path.

Tip: When you’ve got the hang of this game, you will start finishing them long before the timer runs out. You can skip the timer by pressing enter. Don’t do this before your path from beginning to end is ready though!

Good luck getting those shocked keys!

Pirate101 Game Improvements

Pirate101 Game Improvements

Pirate101 Game Improvements

Pirate101 just turned five years older but that hasn’t kept me away from playing it every day (even more than wiz despite its recent update). I can’t seem to get sick of an MMO with such an intense story line. Pirate101 keeps me entertained and begging for more thrilling well-written content. If you haven’t picked up on it, yes, I’m in love with pirate101. I wish for it to unleash its hidden potential. With pirate on its way to becoming six years old, I wanted to take my time to share my Pirate101 wish list. I urge others in the pirate community to help by sharing their ideas as well. Kingsisle already knows we want story content, so please lets hold back on those type of comments and comment with some burning desire you have.

My List:

More Bundles and Gauntlets please?

I see wizard bundles coming out every now and then and when you compare the amount that Pirate101 has released, it always stings. I hope they consider adding world themed bundles, since I wouldn’t mind purchasing a cool ranch, a monquistan or even a valencian bundle, that I could proudly call my own.

Shooty/Smashy

I recently picked up on a hybrid buccaneer set. I have noticed that – although I could use weapons that offer shooty/slashy – I find myself desiring to use a smashy weapon. That way I can utilize the bonus damage that comes with it. Smashy/shooty weapens exist but there is a huge difference. I hope pirate can go back and add this form of weaponry one day.

An Improved Pet System

I enjoy the fact that pets are way more useful in pirates than in wizard. However, I hate how difficult it is and long it takes to get the exact talents you want. I hope that they add in an option to play mini games to level up our pets. I also hope for a way to reduce the RNG that goes into creating the pets we desire.

Less Reskins

I think it is about time that we were given the option to dye our pets and mounts any certain colors we want. Having the option to buy the same pet and mount in different colors for crowns just drains resources.

Pirate101 Game ImprovementsMember Benefits!

There is only 1 benefit I really care about at the moment. That would have to be getting back my practice points for free. I’ve done at least 5 resets and you can imagine how many crowns that took. I suggest making the buy back free for 1 week after the pvp season resets for anyone who did a minimal of 3 ranked matches.

More PvP Balances

I hope there is a fix to people who boost in PvP and a fix to charm to help aid witchdoctors in PvP. I’d also like to see new and creative strategies that don’t revolve around using some champ weapon or crazy RNG that ends the entire match too quickly.

PvP Spectating

I think it’s time that we finally got to check out our friends duke it out in pvp! I have to live stream my matches for my friends to see and it gets annoying really fast.

These are all the ideas for now so again, please help us compile this list!

Tell us the little things in your pirate’s life you want!

How to Play Catch a Key (Silver Chest Game)

http://ift.tt/2C2cVKe

How to Play Catch a Key
(Silver Chest Game)

Here are some possible number combinations

To get Shocked Keys, you will need to play Silver Chest games. There’s two games that will randomly show up: Catch a Key and Shock a Lock. In this small guide, we will focus on Catch a Key.

The goal of the game

The goal of the game is to catch 5 keys with the right number on them in the right order. You can see what numbers you will need at the bottom left.

In the example below, I needed five 4’s. The key which I needed to catch next (in this case the first 4) is highlighted in yellow. The numbers can be any combination at all.

How to Play Catch a Key

How to Play Catch a Key

How to Catch Keys

You catch the keys by moving the little triangle at the bottom left and right. You do that with either your arrow keys on your keyboard, or A and D. Moving up or down is not possible. Some items fall slowly, others are very fast. While you’re trying to catch your next key, try to avoid the wrong numbers, bombs and ice blocks.

Making Mistakes

Making mistakes is fine! You can catch the wrong key three times. The fourth time, it’s game over.

In the following image, I’ve caught the wrong key two times, as you can see on the bottom right. That’s perfectly fine and will have no consequences on your rewards.

How to Play Catch a Key

Ways to Lose the Game

  1. Run out of time. When the timer is up and you don’t have your keys yet, you lose the game. In order to prevent this, catch the little clocks to give yourself extra time.
  2. Catch a bomb. Catching a bomb means an immediate game over. If you’re trapped and need to choose between a bomb and a wrong numbered key, pick the key!
  3. Picking the wrong key four times. You can make three mistakes, but the fourth wrong key will result in a game over.

One last tip for when you have the basics down: pressing and holding the space bar will make the keys fall down faster while not speeding up the time. That way you can make sure you manage to find your five keys in time!

Good luck getting those shocked keys!

Free 1st Second Chance Chest Roll (New Member Benefit)

http://ift.tt/2kbgupi

Free 1st Second Chance Chest Roll

KingsIsle introduced a brand new member benefit: Free 1st second chance chest roll. Let’s take a quick look at it.

What is second chance chest?

We’ve all seen them already. They’re spread from Wizard City all the way to the Emyprea. It’s a mean looking chest that is just screaming and begging you to open it and check what’s inside.

But there’s a catch. You can open it, but to see what it drops you have to pay the price. It starts with 50 crowns and get more expensive with every new try. The chest rewards you with stuff that is dropped by its boss. It can be a rare drop or just some random robe.

WARNING: spending more crowns doesn’t increase the chance of getting a rare drop. It just gives you another chance of drops without having to fight the boss/dungeon all over again.

But fear not – the price won’t go up forever. It resets after one day and you can start again by starting with only 50 crowns!

How does it work during the event?

Loremaster! Finally I’ll have an easy way to get spells! Not so fast, there’s a catch. Just like the regular chest resets once a day (for example doing the boss or dungeon again won’t reset it), the free reroll also works only once per day per dungeon.

After you’ve beaten the boss you’ll have an opportunity for free chest. After that, you’ll have to pay the reguler fee (50 crowns, 100 crowns, …). If you quit and do the dungeon again, the chest will continue from where you left off. You’ll have to wait one day to get another free second chest reroll.

It basically works exactly the same as it does normally, just that it has one more level before 50 crowns: zero crowns.

What places should I farm?

So, we came to conclusion that Loremaster isn’t best choice to farm. If you’re a dedicated farmer who grinds a lot, then this one extra chance won’t make much of a difference to you. If you’re not the dedicated grinder, though, it’s time to become one! Especially if you really want to get a specific spell. Spell drops are so rare that second chance chest generally won’t help you too much if you just farm it from time to time (but of course, it doesn’t hurt!)

So which places would be beneficial for this benefit?

Tartarus

Oh good old Tartarus. It used to be pretty popular dungeon that kinda lost its relevancy due to the powerful Darkmoor gear. But if you want to get your hands on the Amulet of Divine Influence, then you should definitely visit Hades again!

Medulla

Medulla

Medulla’s battle is long and confusing, requiring a fairly large chunk of time. As such, it’s awesome to be able to skip one run and try your luck on the chest! The Cabalist wands only seem to drop in this battle.

Darkmoor

Darkmoor is another dungeon that takes a large chunk of your time. The cheats are really difficult for an uncoordinated team. With gear that many players still use at level 125, it’s a must have dungeon to visit!

House of Scales

House of Scales isn’t that important if you’re marching your way toward max levels, but if you decide to stay and PvP at mid levels, it’s a nice dungeon to visit. Gear is an aggressive alternative to the famous Waterworks gear. This is a good opportunity to test your luck here!

Malistaire

The good old Malistaire from Dragonspyre. While his gear isn’t nearly as useful as it was at the begining, you should still visit him for the good old nostalgic days. And you can help someone in the team-up kiosk on the way there!

Baba Yaga

There are also some other boss fights that doesn’t require doing a whole dungeon who are bit tougher and worth trying your luck with second chance chest. Baba Yaga (you can run around first battle), Morganthe, Grandfather spider, Rasputin are just some choices…

What’s your favourite place to spend a free second chest roll?

Shocked Keys: Where to Find Silver Chests

http://ift.tt/2zZ9na9

Shocked Keys:
Where to Find Silver Chests

The revered crafting recipe requires you to find 10 Shocked Keys. You can get those as a reward for doing a Silver Chest game. In this small guide, we’ll look at some spots where you can farm for Silver Chests, so you can get your Shocked Keys as fast as possible.

These places are in no particular order. You can pick the one you personally like most.

Shocked Keys in Eerem Palace

This area is almost guaranteed to have one chest per realm. Use the “Eerem Palace” teleporting carpet in the Commons of Mirage to get there. Once you find the chest, use the teleporting carpet to get back, and change realms. This is necessary because, inside the area, you can’t change realms.

Other collectables in this area include Deep Mushroom, Black Lotus, Wooden Chests and Antiquities.

shocked keys

Shocked Keys in Aeriel Jungle

The silver chests in this area are spread out, which means you will have to do more walking to get to your chests. In addition, this is a more active area right now, so other people might steal your chests. However, it’s a good area if you also need Aethyr Ore for the same recipe!

This area also contains woorden chests, Agave Leaves and Red Mandrake.

shocked keys

Shocked Keys in Thieves’ Den

This is probably currently the most popular area to find silver chests! You might have a little bit of competition, if you start farming at times when there are many people online. The Thieves’ Den is a little bit hard to find. You will have to go to Caterwaul Canyons, then find the area with the cart, where you will find a lantern next to an empty wall. You can’t see it, but this is the entrance to the Thieves’ Den.

Other reagents to get in this area are Agave Leaves, Stone Blocks, Parchment and Antiquities. Combine farming for silver chests with your life-long dream of having 999 antique unicorn statues! What do you mean, you don’t care about unicorns? Unicorns are awesome!

shocked keys

Shocked Keys at the Chronoverge

This is apparently @CameronRedGem’s place! As long as nobody else is farming for keys there, it works very well! Both spawn points are very close together, so the running is minimized. You can get to this location by using the teleportation carpet to Rubal Wastes. When you’re looking straight at the Tower of Babble, the Chronoverge is on your left. Use the teleporter there.

Shocked Keys in Urville Station

Use the teleporter from Walruskberg to Urville Station. This is definitely not a popular area, so you can safely assume all the silver chest will be YOURS! There’s a lot of fencing obstructing your way here, so you should learn the best way to navigate from one chest spawning point to the next.

Shocked Keys in Cloudburst Forest

To get to Cloudburst Forest, use the teleporter next to Zeke and the flying raft. This area has 5 spawning spots and does require some running. It’s definitely not crowded though! The drop rate seemed especially low in this area for me, but that might just be my imagination, or bad luck.

Shocked Keys
from Gardening Key Limes

Did you know you can also get Shocked Keys from gardening Key Limes? Pretty cool alternative if you’re not in the mood to realm hop for an hour!

What’s YOUR favorite place?

From Zero to Hero Part 4: School Specific Break Down

http://ift.tt/2zNiHOk

From Zero to Hero: Part 4
Beginners’ PvP Guide
School Specific Break Down

PvP is a fantastic Wizard101 endgame activity but it’s also the hardest one. Requirements to even survive in private ranks are insanely high, not to mention obtaining the shiny warlord badge. Sounds pretty scary, right? Don’t get discouraged though, we’ve got you covered.

This guide will be divided in four parts and hopefully we’ll cover everything you need to know to start being competitive in the Arena. Don’t get scared though about this wall of text, which is aimed to privates. The road to higher ranks become significantly easier once you master the basics. Imagine this as a life process. It’s really hard to learn how to walk. However, once you do learn it, figuring out how to jump and run becomes a much easier task.

Before Starting with Randked PvP: Part 1
Non-Fighting Essentials: Part 2
Fighting Essentials: Part 3

Balance

Balance is one of the three schools that is great at any level. While you do have a strong natural healing spell as a Balance, it’s sadly a heal over time. Due to the initial healing being really low, you need to be really careful how and when you use it. If your opponent manages to land a huge hit on you, it might already be too late to act. Fortunately, Balance has a lot of other tools that can help prevent this situation. Mana Burn and Supernova are great tools to control and limit your opponent’s options.

If you’re a low level (up to Grandmaster) and don’t have Loremaster, then you might have some problems. While Chimera is a powerful attack, it’s really easy to predict and counter it. Going for a max pip judgement is not a bad choice, but you have to make sure that you actually kill the opponent. Not killing them and staying without pips can quickly turn the tide of the battle. But fear not – the Balance school has one really good pet that can ease your life in Arena – the Clockwork Paladin.

Things become interesting once you reach legendary level. Since you can craft Loremaster and get access to gear with a nice amount of resist and a damage boost, Balance becomes really powerful out there. As a matter of fact, it’s by far the best school among legendaries and one of the easiest to play across all levels. Add some Supernovas from Sunions and Mana Burn from the House of Scales robe and you get an unstopabble force in the arena. Transcendent level is simillar to legendary – you get slightly harder opponents, but you learn Supernova (and you can enhance it too) and Mana Burn.

Fighting at max levels (100+) might not be as easy as it is at mid levels, but Balance is still holding strong and is a Tier 1 school. Gaze of Fate is a powerful spell that’s hard to shield from and leaves a damage bubble. When you combine this with all other tools we previously mentioned, Balance remains a school that is really hard to get defeated.

Death

Death is the school where you’ll have troubles regardless of the level you play at. While Death is a decent school at low and mid levels, it fall to low tier at max level. Granted, the difference is not as big as it is at Max levels. Still, Death’s uniqueness — draining — isn’t always the best way to PvP. Drain attacks are considered one of the hardest kind of spells to use in game. This is due to Death’s low base damage, the 2/3 boost from sun enhancements and poor stats at max level. As a Death, you do have a natural heal, but using it is equally tricky as using helping/availing hands for Balance. This is due to the fact that — while Sacrifice is a power heal which instantly gives you a nice amount of health — it also uses all death and universal blades you have on.

From Zero to Hero Part 4

Death has a nice fighting chance at low levels due to a very powerful rank 8 DoT attack. A few blades and infallible and you’re ready to shred through your opponent’s defense. The tricky part is triages and shifts – especially if you start second or play a turn based match. Another strong and slightly harder to get spell is Deadly Minotaur. It’s a bit weaker than Bone Dragon, but it’s a good way to go around shields and deal instant damage. Going up to grand (for defensive play) or legendary (for offensive play) makes Death even stronger than it is at low levels. Unfortunately it still falls short compared to most other schools.

Going even higher brings us to 2 extremes: by far the easiest and by far hardest level to Pvp. By the far easiest is the category of level 80 Juju spamming. It does require some crown investment for pack gear and life mastery and what is most important – a lot of time for every single match. On the other hand, we have max level, a range that is really really bad for death wizards. If you’re not prepared for torture, then just stay at grand or legendary level with your Death wizard.

Fire

Beside the previously mentioned Loremaster, there is one more spell that really stands out as overpowered dropped spell. It’s called Burning Rampage. While it is fairly hard to get, it’s a card that can almost guarantee you a win if you start first. From second it’s also an extremly useful tool. It provide so many opportunities for combinations!

Fire’s large variety of over time attacks, their amazing hard hitting utility spells, the most annoying minion in game and their great stats on gear make Fire a top contestant among all levels. It’s true that Fire’s natural heal comes only in the form of (power) link. As such, a life mastery is obligatory if you choose the healing route. Luckily Fire is such an offensive school that you can just go for the kill before even needing a heal.

If you manage to get Burning Rampage on your low level, you’re sporting one of the most powerful school/levels to play with. Low level Rampager are a pain to deal with. It’s almost as bad as 80 death juju spamming and slightly above Legendary balance Lore spamming. Even if you don’t have Rampage, there are still alternatives like Efreet or Firezilla. Just make sure that you have a shield clearing minion up.

Fire is a school that remain equally good as you progress up the levels. Some other schools are good at all levels, but godlike at specific ranges; some schools fluctate a lot; and then there’s Fire – a really constant school regardless of where you play. Reaching legendary will allow you to train and enchant Efreet. Going even higher will give you spells like King Artorious and Fire from Above. In addition, Fire Beetle and Brimstone Revenant allow for some nice and powerful trap stacking.

Ice

Ice concludes the list of schools that are currently good at any level. Ice’s high health gives you nice survivability. Still, at low and mid levels you still need to be backed up with a Life Mastery amulet. Your tankiness can only take a certain amount of damage. As an Ice, you’ll need to either kill the opponent fast enough or heal back up and gain more time to stack even more blades for a deadly attack. Ice is a really good choice at low and mid levels. At max, it is without a doubt the best school. As such, Ice wizards can and will demolish everyone who crosses their path.

Frostbite is one spell, that almost every Ice loves to use and you get access to it in Krokotopia. It’s a great hit to start combos with. At low levels it can also do a nice amount of damage to opponents. The good thing about Frostbite is that its low pip cost allows for some nice follow-ups with spells like Woolly Mammoth and Lord of Winter. There are also spells that aren’t as costly such as Winter Moon and Arcticzilla. Ice Bird is another spell that you should definitely have your side deck. For only 2 pips, you get a spell that destroys a shield/kills a minion + puts a blade on you. With your high health, amazing utility spells mixed with some hard hitting ones, you won’t have too much problems in PvP on your Ice until reaching level 100.

And when you do reach level 100, you won’t have any problems at all anymore in PvP. Winning everything is of course impossible, but Abominal Weaver with its 75% universal shield is probably the best Shadow hitting spell of all schools. In addition, Weaver also hits hard.

If you want to PvP as an Ice, then choosing grandmaster or max level would be your best options. It depends on your preferences and whether you like fights that are a bit slower, or faster paced fights.

Life

From Zero to Hero Part 4If you like long matches with lot of healing, than the Life school is perfect for you. As a Life wizard, you have a lot of tools that will help you stay alive. There’s a vast array of healing spells, trainable triage and the most effective healing minion in the game. Still, the problems with killing are present both ways.

Due to Life’s weak damage, its lower offensive stats and a limited choice of shield breakers, it can be bit tricky to win without making an opponent flee. There are some useful TC available that can help you with this problem. These work especially well if your opponent uses a tower shield instead of set shield. Death Bat and Fire Elf are nice over time spells. If you train Fire Elf, you can enchant it for extra accuracy. Meanwhile, Myth Banshee keeps your opponents stunned for a round. Alternatively, you can just shatter the shields off.

Due to the high amount of natural healing spells, Life can use amulets like Myth to help them in offense. Alternatively there is also Spinysaur TC. The good thing about this spell is that it’s a Life DoT attacking spell. Unfortunately it’s really front-loaded. This means that the intitial damage might get absorbed by a shield. Still, with enough blades, the over time can leave a mark on low leveled wizards with a low amount of health. Or you can be cheeky with a Myth mastery and use a spell like Medusa. You could also try to keep your minion alive to break the shields for you. She can even bring you back to life, if you start second and she heals you the same round you die!

The Life school remains equally good as your level goes up – it’s somewhere in the middle. You do get access to Guardian Spirit spell, which revives you with 15% of your health. This might look like nothing, but this spell can still completely reset the game if you posses enough of a healing boost. While healing isn’t as popular as it is at lower levels, the Life school can still effectivly use Satyrs. Especialy if you happen to crit your heal, since heals still do x2 (unlike x1,3 for attacks).

Myth

Myth is a really good choice at low levels, and solid at mid and max levels. They are known as the minion school, but there are also other things that make them good in PvP. Let’s start with minions! There is the zero pip shield breaker, the 700 hp minion you can get at level 18 and the ultimate beast – Talos. If this isn’t enough, Myth has a lot of other awesome spells. Your double hitting spells (Minotaur, Orthrus) and Basilisk will turn shielding into a nightmare. Meanwhile Medusa will put your opponent under pressure to find stun blocks. The downside is that as a Myth you don’t have a natural healing spell. In addition, unlike Ice or Fire, you don’t possess stats (either defensive or offensive) to compensate for the lack of a healing spell.

On low levels you can choose one of two routes to play. Well three: if you have option A and B, there is always an option A+B. Firstly, you can summon a minion and keep your opponent occupied with it until you’re ready to unleash attack. Secondly, you can go the quick damage route. A few blades and one of the previously mentioned attacks will put a lot of pressure on your opponent.

There isn’t much new as you level up. Your main spells remain the same, except that they can be enchanted with tc’s now. Make sure to utilize Talos. His 1000 health, ability to get power pips and use frog to kill your opponent minion — combined with regular stunning — make this probably the best minion you can have. Trainable Shift is another strong point for Myth wizards. Shift is something that should always find its place in any deck. It’s a bit tricky to use Shift from second, but from first or in the turn based system it can be a game changer.

Storm

Storm is another good school if you are seeking a challenge in the Arena. While Storm’s attacks hit really hard, you’ll have the lowest amount of health of any school and no shield breakers. You can get a pet with a Storm Elf item card or buy mutate Storm Elf tc’s, but that’s about it. Storm hound also exist, but it’s a bit impractical in actual fights. In addition, Mutate Phoenix is another good card, which is a bit more accessible. It does decent damage and leaves three traps on the opponent. Lastly there’s of course Storm Lord – the backbone of every Storm wizard’s setup. Unfortunately everyone rushes to stun block, so you have to be quick.

The low levels are pretty challenging for Storm. As always, your low health is an issue and your low power pip percentage means more time until you can use Storm Lord. But on the flipside, one max bolt can kill or almost kill your opponent. Remember, as a Storm you strive towards killing opponents before they can set up. Because of this, Infallible and constant pressure are your best friends here.

Leveling up higher, toward legendary levels, will make playing bit easier. Tactics won’t change too much, but your offensive stats will be much higher. Utilize Storm Elf (if you can) in combination with Storm Lord for some extra power.

Reaching max levels doesn’t make life any easier for Storms. One benefit is that your opponents won’t heal as much as they do at lower levels. Regardless, shields will still regularly show up. Shadow Shrike combined with a nice pierce boost from gear allows you to shred through shields. Glowbug Squall is a nice spell and should find a place in your deck. It’s true that it’s not as strong as Rusalka’s Wrath, but removing all blades from the opponent provides much needed survivability.

Ah, Medulla, the final boss of Empyrea Part 1 and the first real challenge since Sycorax. He sports an impressive 125,000 hp and 3 of our closest allies as his confused minions. Being the challenge he is, I decided to try my hand at soloing him and these are the results.

The Strategy

Step 1

The first step to take out Medulla revolved around 2 main tenets: 1) Limit the amount of incoming damage and 2) Limit the effectiveness of Confusion. As such, aura of Fortification and Aura of Brace served both those functions. With 100%+ resist to fire and myth- these 2 auras would counteract the innate pierce of Medulla and Pork allowing me immunity for their duration. They would also make damage from Sparck, Beans and the Essence Cannon less painful. Secondly, the auras offered a convenient way to avoid Medulla’s confusion mechanics. Since auras are self only- they offer a free cast when confused (although you may need to select/deselect a few times for them to trigger). Once I had my aura established I could safely focus on defeating my enemies while utilizing heals to keep my health up.

Step 2

When soloing I realized I would have to defeat the enemies one by one to have a chance. My first priority was Sparck who dealt significant damage due to my low balance resist and the essence cannon. Sparck also has a large variety of annoying utility options which made him the ideal first target.

Step 3

My next target was Beans whose healing would make it virtually impossible to take out Medulla with him alive. Beans could also deal somewhat significant damage to me due to my low Life resist.

Step 4

With Beans and Sparck out of the way the battle became significantly easier. All I had to do was ensure I had an aura to become immune to both Pork and Medulla’s damage types. As such it then became a matter of stacking enough feints and blades (ensuring I timed it between Sparck’s essence cannon firing). I took out Pork before moving on to Medulla, but really order doesn’t matter at this point.

Empyrea Cabalist Gear – Wizard101

http://ift.tt/2AJuAZJ

Empyrea Cabalist Gear

Cabalist Gear

So far, the best gear in Empyrea part one is the Cabalist Gear.  It’s similar to the the Time Warden gear from Mirage. It’s also similar to the crafted gear in Empyrea, so we’ve included the crafted gear here so you can compare.

The hats, robes and boots drop from the Yowck, Medulla, and several other bosses and dungeons in Empyrea.  We’ve had good success farming the Secret Tunnel for the gear (and Flying Squid Ink, if you’re into Revered Crafting).  Gannon and Madd’n drop hats and boots, while D’Viss drops robes as well.

The wands appear to only drop from Medulla, as far as we know.

And the decks and rings only drop from the Beastman Fight Club.
